Research shows that younger sleepers thrive with a firmer feel on the surface of their mattress as they transition from a crib mattress, which is why we’ve chosen a firmer feel for ages 3-7. As they grow, flip this mattress to the other side for a more plush feel, recommended for ages 8-12.

The Birch Kids Natural Mattress has been GREENGUARD Gold Certified by UL Environment, one of the leading environmental health agencies in the world. This means the mattress has been tested for volatile organic compounds (VOCs), pollutants, phthalates, and formaldehyde. The Gold level certification offers even stricter regulations and means our products are considered safe for sensitive individuals, including children and elderly.
eco-INSTITUT Certified Latex
Our natural latex has been tested by an international organization to certify low to no emissions or VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) are present. This includes testing for organic pollutants, heavy metals, pesticides, and phthalates among other substances. This certification is not about merely meeting minimum requirements, but rather exceeding high level material as well as manufacturing standards.

We designed the Birch Kids Natural Mattress with bunk beds in mind and limited the overall height of the mattress to 8 inches in order to be compatible with most bunk bed setups. We do highly recommend, though, that you consult the specific safety guidelines for your bunk bed to confirm whether it is compatible with an 8-inch mattress.
In developing the Birch Kids Natural Mattress, we followed industry guidance around the support required for young sleepers as they grow. The firmer side of our mattress provides a bit more support for kids who are transitioning from a crib mattress. As kids grow and develop the softer side offers a bit more plush comfort. Learn more
