The Birch Kids Natural Mattress is praised for its high-quality materials and lack of off-gassing smell, but some customers find it uncomfortable for younger kids and have mixed feelings about the mattress's thickness and the bed frame size.

"Unfortunately after a lot of back & forth with the company, I must rate as a 1 star. We bought TWO twin mattresses and right away knew something was off. The age 2-7 side on one mattress was really plush and the 8+ side was very firm. The other mattress was the opposite (the correct labeling I believe), but on the firm side you could feel each spring right underneath the top layer of fabric. We reached out right away, sent videos (which after several attempts I figure they simply didn't *want* to see them) and eventually were told everything was fine. Such a bummer because I wanted to LOVE them!"
"My girls (3 and 5) both have this mattress. They sleep very well and the firmness level is perfect for them. I love that the mattresses can be flipped when the kids are older. I spent a few nights on the mattress and I slept better than in my own bed and woke up with no back pain. I am looking to upgrade mine now. It is also nice that the mattresses had zero smell like some other mattress brands."
"Our toddler loves the new mattress!! Customer service was incredibly helpful when we needed assistance with shipping carrier. Would recommend to friends and family looking to buy a new mattress."
"This was horrible. Shorter than advertised. I've been stuck with a 3 inch gap on my sons bed for weeks. The mattress has a smell to it and I feel like I'm sleeping on on old springy mattress. So uncontrollable. I got it because I liked the organic touch for my son but not good. The customer service is good once thru respond but it's annoying having to email someone and wait a day or two to respond."
"SO comfy!!! I will never buy another brand of mattress for me or my kids."
"I wanted to love it so badly, but we completely sink in. No firmness at all. I have additionally bought two different types of box springs to help support and still with a total of three support springs, there is no difference (it is just the mattress). It is for my two year old daughter, but putting her to bed causes my husband and I pain in the short amount of time we lay on it. I wish we can get our money back. With the purchase of two additional box springs it was a very expensive purchase."
"Both sides just feel like a thin layer of cotton on top of springs. It’s wild how clearly you feel the springs. My toddler doesn’t seem to mind, but my husband and I hate it. It’s also heavy and hard to maneuver. I’d be fine with that if it was actually a superior mattress, but what’s the point having a natural mattress if you can’t sleep on it."
"We were so excited to order two kids mattresses after months of research and review. While we are very happy with the quality if materials, the size of the mattresses leaves much to be desired. First off, the foundation we purchased shockingly does not fit a standard full bed frame. To make matters worse, the kids mattresses are not actually full size, and they are smaller than the birch branded foundation sent to work with them. We have waited several weeks to allow for full expansion, but there is severe gapping around all sides, which is very disappointing. If the kids' mattresses were a different size than the paired foundation, this should have been noted on the website. We are extremely disappointed with the mismatched sizing and are unsure if we will keep them after 100 days."
"Very hard. . . uncomfortable. Going to need a mattress topper. . . ."
"Really uncomfortable bed. You can feel the springs."
