Instead, the Birch Kids Natural Mattress relies on organic wool quilted beneath the surface of the mattress to stifle potential flames and comply with federal fire safety standards.
No Polyurethane Foams
Ever heard of off-gassing from a mattress? It's the release of potentially dangerous odors, or Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), expressed by polyurethane foams when exposed to the air.
And with a Birch Kids Natural Mattress, it's something you'll never have to worry about. Our mattresses are made with natural latex comfort layers instead of polyurethane foams, providing essential support and pressure relief without potential exposure to off-gassing.
We’ve even received certification from the GREENGUARD Gold and eco-INSTITUT programs to ensure our mattress is free from high levels of VOCs.
No Dangerous Adhesives
You may not think of glue as a core component in a mattress. But many modern designs rely on glue or adhesives to keep each internal layer in place. And oftentimes, those adhesives can include dangerous compounds to maintain a strong bond. Not with us. GOTS Certified
As a GOTS Certified product, the Birch Kids Natural Mattress has been independently verified to be organic and ethically produced from beginning to end. This certification has served since 2006 as a worldwide standard to ensure the organic status and socially responsible manufacturing of textiles throughout the entire supply chain.
GREENGUARD Gold Certified
The Birch Kids Natural Mattress has been GREENGUARD Gold Certified by UL Environment, one of the leading environmental health agencies in the world. This means the mattress has been tested for volatile organic compounds (VOCs), pollutants, phthalates, and formaldehyde. The Gold level certification offers even stricter regulations and means our products are considered safe for sensitive individuals, including children and the elderly.
Fair Trade Certified
The Birch Kids Natural Mattress is made exclusively with Fair Trade Certified cotton and we only partner with Fair Trade factories, which encourage sustainable cotton production and provide economic benefits to their workers. Fair Trade works with small-scale cotton farmers, helps build stronger farmer-owned organizations, and makes positive impacts to creating job opportunities for women and bettering gender equality around the world.
eco-INSTITUT Certified
The Talalay latex used for both comfort layers in the Birch Kids Natural Mattress has been tested by eco-INSTITUT, an international organization, to certify no emissions or VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) are present. This includes testing for organic pollutants, heavy metals, pesticides, and phthalates among other substances. This certification is not about merely meeting minimum requirements, but rather exceeding high-level material as well as manufacturing standards.
