Is the Birch Kids Natural Mattress Hypoallergenic?

The Birch Kids Natural Mattress is made with natural and organic materials that are free from polyurethane foams. But the use of those natural and organic materials also allows our mattress to resist the build-up of bacteria, mold, mildew, and common allergens that could cause discomfort for your child.
Our mattress design includes layers of both organic cotton and organic wool. Together, these two materials provide natural protection for your child and complete peace of mind for you.
Organic Wool
Organic wool plays a vital role in the Birch Kids Natural Mattress. While it’s considered by many to be a source of allergies and irritation, organic wool itself is hypoallergenic. And in the Birch Kids Natural Mattress, like all Birch mattresses, the organic wool is used as an internal component only, with no exposure to you or your skin. We do always encourage anyone with a wool allergy to consult their doctor before using this product.
In addition to adding a layer of plush comfort directly beneath the surface of the mattress, the organic wool in our mattress also serves as a natural fire retardant, allowing us to avoid the use of dangerous fire retardants. The wool layer sits directly under the quilted cover to prevent fire damage and keep your child safe.
Organic Cotton
Not only does our Fair Trade certified organic cotton provide the soft, breathable feel across the entire exterior of the Birch Kids Natural Mattress, but it also offers another layer of hypoallergenic protection.
Thanks to its organic nature, the cotton we source for our mattress reduces the threat of a reaction to allergens, protecting your child each and every night.
Cotton is a highly breathable fiber used in your mattress cover. We use organic GOTS Certified cotton to create a fabric that is soft and cool to the touch with a sleek tufted design. In addition to its hypoallergenic properties, the cotton in our mattress provides great moisture-wicking benefits.
Natural Latex
Similar to wool, latex is often considered an irritant for anyone with allergies. But our natural latex layers serve only as an internal layer, providing durable comfort and support without ever coming in contact with your skin. As with our organic wool, though, we do always encourage anyone with a latex allergy to consult their doctor before using this product.
No Polyurethane Foams
And don’t forget! In addition to providing hypoallergenic comfort with the use of organic materials, the entire Birch Kids Natural Mattress is free from polyurethane foams.
